Moving Forward,

Our Campaign

Starting in 2005 Christian Community in Action (now known as Dorcas Ministries) began a study to determine the future of the organization for the next 15 to 20 years. After much consideration for various alternatives, it was determined that we should purchase a new property. In 2006 this new property was identified - the Cary Plaza Shopping Center on High House Road. The building was purchased in 2008 for $4 million.

We have completed the feasibility phase of our Capital Campaign and are now in the planning and preparation phase, where we will make some internal infrastructure changes, policy updates, and strengthen community ties to ensure a successful campaign with a goal to raise 2.5-3.0 million dollars by the early 2011 as targeted.

Beginning in the fourth quarter of 2009 Dorcas Ministries launched its Capital Campaign to raise funds to satisfy its goal of relocating to Cary Plaza debt free.

The New Home,

Cary Plaza

In 2005 a committee was formed to study the current facility needs as well as the projected needs for the next 15 to 20 years. After considering modifications to the current land and facility, it was determined that we should instead purchase a new property.

In 2006 an ideal property was identified - the Cary Plaza Shopping Center on High House Road. Equipped with 53,000 square feet of flexible space and 250 parking spaces, the center will meet the needs of Dorcas Ministries and perhaps other non-profit partners for decades. With two separate entrances and a large loading dock, donating items to the Dorcas Thrift Shop will be easier than ever.

By completing its project as scheduled Dorcas Ministries will increase its capacity to serve clients by 50%. The Dorcas Thrift Shop floor space will increase from 5,200 sq.ft. to as much as 25,000 sq.ft. generating more revenue to support service programs. The Food Pantry will grow from 500 sq.ft. to 2,000 sq.ft. allowing more space for storage and a more client-oriented method of food distribution. Crisis Ministry offices and counseling space will double from 300 sq.ft. to over 600 sq.ft. significantly adding to the capacity to serve clients and add programs.

One much needed addition to our service will be the inclusion of an educational component for young adults in the junior high and high school age range.

Our Vision

With the purchase of the new facility at the Cary Plaza Shopping Center, Dorcas Ministries now has a vision to create a non-profit hub in this shopping center. Other non-profits in the area will be given priority as tenants after existing leases expire. Dorcas Ministries dreams of the center offering a one-stop-shop for services to those in need.

Imagine a central location where people in need can use the C-Tran or other public transportation to travel to the center. While there, they can receive the immediate assistance they need for their families, and begin to plan for their futures through job training opportunities, job networks, parenting classes, and medical services, along with other programs that are created over time.
