For nearly two years, Dorcas Ministries has had the privilege of partnering with the Sondei Vineyard Food Recovery Program to provide food assistance to residents of Cary and Morrisville. Sondei Vineyard volunteers pick up surplus foods, such as potatoes, fruits, and breads from local businesses and grocery stores such as Food Lion, Kroger, Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Jet Pizza, Starbucks, and Papa Johns of Apex. These recovered foods, along with the pantry staples from the Dorcas Food Pantry meet the nutritional needs of over 5,000 families a year. Organizations such as AA, Gateway, Shiloh Missionary Baptist, and the USO are all provided food through the partnership between Sondei Vineyard and Dorcas Ministries.
Sondei volunteers meet the needs of other organizations by picking up food and delivering it. Jet Pizza, on more than one occasion, provided Sondei volunteers with enough pizza to serve everyone at the local USO. Two Starbucks have wrapped, bagged, and sent meals to the communities in need near Maynard Rd. in Cary, by way of Sondei volunteers. Whole Foods regularly provides vegetables that Sondei delivers to agencies that use the vegetables to make stews that are used to feed the hungry in the area.
The partnership between Dorcas Ministries and Sondei Vineyard is a great example of pooling community resources to benefit our neighbors in need.
